Wind your way along Scenic 7 visiting Fraser Valley’s historic sites. Stop at Mission’s Stave Falls Powerhouse, Kilby Historic Site, Agassiz-Harrison Museum and Yale Historic Site to relax, refresh and step back in time.

Attractions

  1. Maillardville & Mackin House Museum (Coquitlam)- Walk through history in the Mackin House built in 1909, or explore the Maillardville grounds established by the French Canadians that re-located Coquitlam in 1909.
  2. Maple Ridge Heritage Walking Tour-The Fraser River Heritage Walk links the key heritage sites in Port Haney with a paved walkway.
  3. Maple Ridge Museum-The museum features First Nations prehistory, history of settlement and prominent families of historic Maple Ridge and a world-class model railway diorama of the Port Haney area.
  4. Billy Miner Alehouse and Cafe (Maple Ridge)-Constructed over 100 years ago, it has served as a bank, a shelter for war vets, a pub, and as a love note from a devoted widow to her deceased beloved.
  5. Stave Falls PowerHouse(Mission)-This 100-year-old power generating facility is also a National Historic Site of Canada where guests can comb through archival photos, artifacts and explore the original mechanical and electrical components installed over a century ago.
  6. Kilby Historic Site(Harrison Mills)-Located near the junction of the Harrison and Fraser Rivers, the Kilby Historic Site stands as the only reminder of the once thriving community of Harrison Mills, British Columbia, Canada.
  7. Sasquatch Museum at the Harrison Visitor Centre– Come see the newly opened Sasquatch Museum in Harrison Hot Springs, BC! Enjoy videos, artifacts, and media; you may even catch a glimpse of Hot Springs Harry.
  8. Agassiz-Harrison Museum-The Agassiz-Harrison Museum is housed in a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) station built in 1893 – one of Canada’s oldest wooden CPR stations still standing. The building was once a fully-operating station, and also the living quarters for the station master and his family.
  9. Yale Historic Site-Yale, B.C. was once the largest city north of San Francisco and west of Chicago.Originally established in 1848 as a Hudson’s Bay Company trading post, Yale grew with the influx of an estimated 30,000 gold miners during the gold rush of 1858.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Start your day  in Coquitlam at the Maillardville and Mackin House, absorb the history and stretch your legs.Once you have taken in the Fraser Mills and Francophone history in Maillardville head to the Maple Ridge Heritage Walk; which starts at Jim Hadgkiss Park: 30 mins(23.2 km). Explore the rich history of Port Haney, then make your way to Billy Miner’s Alehouse and Cafe for lunch: 3 mins(1.4 km). Once refueled for the day, stay on the scenic Highway 7 and drive to Stave Falls Power House:22 mins (24.9 km).  For your final destination of the day, make your way to Kilby Historic Site: 46 mins( 49.7 km)
Spend the night in Harrison Mills, Harrison Hot Springs.

Day 2:

Start your day in either Harrison Mills, or Harrison Hot Springs and drive to the Harrison Visitors Information Centre to stop into the newly opened Sasquatch Museum. Visit with Hot Springs Harry and learn the history of the Sasquatch. From here, drive to the Agassiz-Harrison Museum. This old train station will travel you back in time to 1893. Next, make your way to Yale Historic Site: 33 mins (51.2 km).  Stop in for a cup of tea or lunch after you’ve explored the rich history of Yale; the Boomtown  of the Fraser. Return home.
