National Day for Truth & Reconciliation Events on BC Route 7

September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Throughout BC Route 7, there will be a few events on this day that can help you listen, learn, and expand your knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and reconciliation. Here are the details on these excellent events taking place on September 30th.

National Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day event

Location: Fraser River Heritage Park
Time: 11:00 am

Attend this event to hear words from local Indigenous leaders, witness drumming, and more. Attendees are encouraged to wear orange!

Maple Ridge

We Stand with You Through Truth and Reconciliation event

Location: Memorial Peace Park
Time: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

This event is being hosted by the Fraser River Indigenous Society to encourage attendees to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. Visit this event to enjoy shirt painting, drummers, bannock, community art pieces, and more!

Indigenous History Hike

Location: Kw’okw’echíwel Stl’áleqem (Dragon’s Back Trail)
Time: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Take a self-guided tour along the Kw’okw’echíwel Stl’áleqem “Lookout of the Two-Headed Serpent” trail (locally known as the Dragon’s Back Trail). This event hosted by the Hope Mountain Centre will have local interpreters stationed throughout the trail sharing their knowledge about the important Stó:lō history of the landscape. And if you’re not up for a hike up the trail, there will also be various presenters, music, local arts and crafts vendors, and the Gold Bannock food truck down at the trailhead.
