If you love holiday movies, then you’ll love being on Scenic Route 7 this holiday season. Our communities have played the backdrop of lots of films and TV shows, many of which are holiday themed. Keep reading for some info that movie lovers won’t want to miss out on!

Coquitlam

sumiqwuelu / Riverview Lands
2601 Lougheed Highway

sumiqwuelu/Riverview is located within the ancestral and core territory of Kwikwetlem First Nation. This 244-acre site is the hub of the top film locations in North America.  Did you know that səmiq̓ʷəʔelə was transformed into NYCs Central Park for the classic holiday comedy, Elf (2003). Known as the sequel to the classic, A Christmas Story 2 (2012) was also filmed on the iconic lands – You’ll shoot your eye out!!

Maple Ridge

Hallmark movies Galore!

Maple Ridge has been the set of many iconic, blockbuster movies such as movies from the Twilight series and Rambo: First Blood (1982). Many winter holiday Hallmark movies have also been filmed here such as Christmas Joy (2018), Road to Christmas (2018), The Christmas Promise (2021), and more! If you’re a fan of Hallmark’s, you’ll probably recognize some of the backdrops when you visit Maple Ridge.

Many hallmark films, such as Time for Them to Come Home For Christmas (2021), have been made right in Downtown Mission, a truly picturesque and cozy place to visit during the winter holidays.

Harrison Hot Springs

The backdrop of Long Lost Christmas (2022)

If you’ve seen the Hallmark movie Long Lost Christmas (2022), you might have spotted a bit of Harrison Hot Springs in the background. Having had a leading role in the film, Benjamin Ayers said that the area has been “one of [his] favourite places to film… the backdrop is magnificent”.

The romantic atmosphere, elegant decor, and luxury cabins make Rowena’s Inn feel like you can create your own Hallmark moment. Many Hallmark films have actually been filmed at Rowena’s Inn.

If you’re looking for a winter wonderland full of snow, head up to Sasquatch Mountain Resort, which was the where One Winter Wedding (2021) was shot.

This Hallmark movie was filmed throughout Hope and includes very recognizable backdrops from the Hope Fire Department and Hope’s Downtown area!

The Grinch Chainsaw Carving

Did you know that Hope is the chainsaw carving capital of Canada? You’ll know why when you visit and see its collection of over 80 carvings all around town. And the best of the season is the Grinch that’s got the best spot on Wallace Street, right next to Memorial Park.
